The Berkeley Rent Stabilization Board ("Board") will hold a public hearing at its regular monthly meeting on Thursday, March 21, 2024, to consider whether to increase the Board's annual registration fees, all due on July 1, 2024, to offset increases in cost-of-living, fringe benefits, non-personnel costs, and the capital expenditure necessary to relocate the agency's office to a new location with more meeting space. At the recommendation of the Board's Budget & Personnel Committee, the Board will consider increasing the registration fee for fully-covered units by an amount not to exceed $54.00 per unit; and will consider increasing the registration fee for partially-covered (Measure MM) units by an amount not to exceed $34.00 per unit. The Board will also consider increasing the registration fee for units in affordable housing projects by an amount not to exceed $16.00 per unit; and the Board will consider increasing the summer registration fee for qualifying sororities and fraternities by an amount not to exceed $26.00 per unit.
While these registration fees may be increased by the maximum amounts listed above, the Board may choose not to increase them or may vote to increase them by a lesser amount.
This public hearing will be conducted in a hybrid format with both in-person attendance at the Berkeley Unified School District (BUSD) Board Room at 1231 Addison Street, and virtual attendance via Zoom videoconference at the link above. For in-person attendees, face coverings or masks that cover both the nose and the mouth are encouraged. Physically distanced seating will be available. If you are feeling sick, please do not attend the meeting in person.
This meeting may also be viewed on BTV Cable Channel 33 or via live webcast at https://rentboard.berkeleyca.gov/. The BUSD Board Room is wheelchair-accessible.
