NOTIFICATION TO FORMER OWNERS OF THE OXFORD SITE
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN by the Berkeley Unified School District ("District") to the former owners of certain real property known as the former Oxford Elementary School Site, located at 1130 Oxford Street in the City of Berkeley, County of Alameda, State of California (APN 061-2558-017-00), consisting of approximately 1.26 acres of land (approximately 54,847 square feet) that is improved with a three-story school building, containing approximately 32,624 square feet therein ("Property"). The Property was conveyed to the District by W.J. Mortimer and Grace E. Mortimer, as reflected by the vesting deed recorded with the Alameda County Recorder's Office on May 21, 1907.
At its regular meeting held on June 18, 2025, the District's Board of Education ("Board") adopted Resolution No. 25-053 Declaring the Board's Intention to Sell Certain Surplus Real Property Known as the "Oxford Site," a copy of which may be found on the District's website. The District intends to sell the surplus real property pursuant to the process set forth in Education Code section 17455 et seq.
This notice is provided to the former owners of the Property, in accordance with Education Code section 17470, that the Board will hold a public meeting to open and consider written bids, and receive oral bids, for the sale of the Property, pursuant to Education Code section 17466. Sealed written bids for the purchase of the Property, along with other mandatory bidder information and a bid deposit, will be due no later than 5:00 pm on Friday, October 10, 2025. The Board will open and consider the bids on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, during the Board's regular meeting to be held at its regular meeting place, located at the District's Board Room, 1231 Addison Street in Berkeley, California, beginning at 7:00 pm, or as soon thereafter as practicable.
