As of the election filing deadline of August 14, 2024 there were not enough candidates for election to fill the open seats on the Bayshore Elementary School District Board of Trustees. This required the board to "appoint due to failure to elect". On September 25th, 2024 the BESD Board of Trustees held a Failure to Elect appointment process to fill the vacant seat on the Board of Trustees. One Trustee, David Rudolph was appointed during that process.
To challenge the appointment and order a special election, proponents must file a petition in the office of the San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools within 30 days from the date of the provisional appointment.
The petition must contain:
valid signatures of at least 5 percent of registered voters
of the district at the time of the last regular election for governing board members in districts with less than 2,000 registered voters.
